Domestic installations
New circuits, extra sockets, lighting, showers, rewires and more, carried out to BS 7671 then tested and certified. For homeowners and landlords across Bristol, Bath and the South West.
What domestic installation covers
Domestic installation is most of the electrical work a home needs, from one extra socket to a full rewire. Typical jobs include:
- New circuits for a kitchen, extension, loft conversion or home office.
- Extra sockets, doubles in place of singles, and sockets with built-in USB charging.
- Lighting indoors, in the garden and outside, including security lights and floodlights.
- Kitchen and bathroom electrics, such as extractor fans, shaver points and under-cabinet lights.
- Electric showers, and cooker, oven and hob connections.
- Power and lighting for garages, sheds, garden rooms and other outbuildings.
- Partial and full rewires.
- Mains-powered smoke and heat alarms, linked so that if one sounds they all do.
Everything is installed to BS 7671, the IET Wiring Regulations (18th Edition), then tested before it goes live.
When you might need it
- You rely on extension leads and adaptors because there aren't enough sockets.
- You're planning a new kitchen, bathroom, extension or garden room.
- You want a new electric shower or an induction hob that needs its own circuit.
- The wiring looks old: rubber or fabric-covered cables, round-pin sockets, or switches mounted on wood.
- An EICR (electrical installation condition report) has flagged problems with your wiring.
- You'd like better lighting outside, for safety, security or enjoying the garden after dark.
What affects the cost
Every home and every job is different, so we don't publish set prices. The main things that make a difference are:
- The size of the job, and whether it needs a new circuit or can safely come off an existing one.
- How cables are run: hidden in walls and under floors, or in neat surface trunking.
- Whether your consumer unit has space and the right protection for new circuits.
- Access, floor coverings and how much making good is needed afterwards.
- For garden and outbuilding supplies, the distance and whether a cable needs burying.
We'll look at what you need and give you a clear quote before any work starts.

Domestic installation questions
Does new electrical work need to be certified?
Yes. All new work is tested, and you get an Electrical Installation Certificate for bigger jobs such as a new circuit, or a Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate for smaller changes such as adding a socket to an existing circuit. Some work, including new circuits, consumer unit changes and work in bathrooms, is also notifiable under Part P of the Building Regulations in England and Wales, which means building control has to be told about it. We'll explain how that's handled for your job before we start.
Can you add sockets to an existing circuit?
Often, yes. If the circuit has spare capacity and testing shows it's in good condition, a new socket can usually be taken from it. If it's already heavily loaded, or the socket is for something power-hungry like a heater, a new circuit may be the better choice. We'll check and explain before quoting.
How disruptive is a rewire?
A full rewire is a big job. Floorboards need lifting and channels cutting into walls for the new cables, so there's some dust and the power is off for parts of each day. It's easiest in an empty house or before redecorating, and decorating is best left until afterwards. We'll talk you through the order of work and how long it's likely to take with your quote.
Do you do small jobs, like one extra socket?
Yes. Small jobs such as one extra socket, a new light fitting or a replacement switch are welcome. If you have a few small jobs, list them all when you get in touch so they can be done in one visit.
Can you fit garden and outdoor lighting?
Yes. We fit garden lighting, outside wall lights, security lights and floodlights, using fittings rated for outdoor use. Outdoor circuits have RCD protection, and cables are run in conduit or buried at a safe depth where needed. Lights can work from a switch, a timer, a dusk sensor or a motion sensor.
