24/7 emergency electrician
Burning smell, sparking, water in your electrics or a power cut that only affects you? Call 07477 017759, day or night. We'll talk you through making things safe, tell you honestly when we can get there, and make the installation safe when we arrive. For homes and businesses across Bristol, Bath and the South West.
If there's fire or smoke, get everyone out and call 999 first.
What counts as an emergency
- A burning, hot or fishy smell from a socket, switch, light or the consumer unit.
- Sparking, crackling or scorch marks.
- Water leaking into a light fitting, socket or the consumer unit.
- Loss of power that isn't a power cut on the network.
- An RCD or breaker that trips and won't reset.
- Exposed wires or damaged fittings that could be touched.
If your problem isn't on this list, it may still need sorting soon, but probably not in the middle of the night. See "Not an emergency?" below, or use the fault finder.
What to do first
- Fire or smoke: leave the building and call 999.
- Switch off at the consumer unit if you can reach it safely. Don't touch it if it's wet, hot or you're standing in water.
- Water in the electrics: turn off the main switch if it's dry and safe to reach, stop the leak at the stopcock if you can, and keep away from wet fittings.
- Check it isn't a power cut. If your neighbours are off too, call 105, the free national power cut number, or check your network operator's website. In Bristol and Bath that's National Grid Electricity Distribution.
- On a prepayment meter, check there's credit before anything else.
Don't open the consumer unit, remove covers or touch any wiring.
What happens when you call
We'll ask what you can see, hear and smell, and which circuits are affected. If something needs doing straight away to keep you safe, we'll talk you through it on the phone. Then we'll tell you honestly when we can get to you, which depends on where you are and what's already booked. We'll also explain how the callout is charged before we set off, so there are no surprises.
Making safe, then repairing
The first job on an emergency callout is making the installation safe. That usually means isolating the faulty circuit and getting the rest of the power back on, so you have lights, heating and a working fridge.
Then we'll tell you honestly what we find and what fixing it involves. If it needs parts we don't carry, or a larger job such as replacing a damaged consumer unit, we leave everything safe, explain what we found and give you a clear quote before any repair work starts. There's more about how we trace faults on our fault finding and repairs page.
Businesses
A power loss can stop you trading. Call the same number at any time. We'll aim to get essential circuits back on first, then trace the fault, fitting further work around your opening hours. See also commercial electrics.
Not an emergency?
If you've got a fault that's annoying rather than dangerous, such as a dead socket, a light that flickers or a breaker that trips now and then, use the fault finder. Answer a few questions and your fault report comes straight to us, so we can book a visit and arrive with the right parts.
Letting a property? Tenants' emergencies are covered too. See landlords and letting agents.
Excellent service from start to finish. The electrician was professional, friendly, and arrived promptly. We needed a new socket installed, and the work was carried out quickly and efficiently. Everything was left clean and tidy, and the quality of the work was excellent. We’re very pleased with the result and would highly recommend their services to anyone looking for a reliable and professional electrician.
Emergency questions
Is a tripping RCD an emergency?
Not always. Unplug everything on that circuit and try resetting it. If it resets, plug things back in one at a time to find the faulty appliance. If it won't reset, or you've lost heating or power to the whole house, call us on 07477 017759.
Water is coming through my ceiling light. What should I do?
Don't touch the switch or the fitting. Switch off at the consumer unit if it's dry and safe to reach, turn off the water at the stopcock, and call us. Even once it's dried out, the fitting and circuit should be tested before you use them again.
How do I know if it's a power cut?
If your neighbours and the street lights are off too, it's almost certainly a network fault. Call 105 for updates. If only your property is off, check your consumer unit and, on a prepayment meter, your credit. If neither explains it, call us.
How much does an emergency callout cost?
It depends on the time of day and what's wrong, so we don't publish set prices. We'll explain how the callout is charged before we come out, and give you a clear quote before any repair work beyond making things safe.
Can you fix it on the same visit?
It depends on the fault. We always make the installation safe first, then tell you honestly what we find and what fixing it involves. If the repair needs parts we don't carry or more time, we'll leave things safe and give you a clear quote for the repair.
